Korea- A country of peacefulness
If I were to pick one of the loveliest and happiest times in my life, it would be when I stayed in South Korea. I never thought south Korea would be such a stunning cheerful nation. I had the chance to spend about six months in South Korea. This was my first foreign trip and of course, my best journey. South Korea is one of the most developed countries in the world and also technologically advanced country.
Kindness and Culture:
As a foreigner, when we travel to another
country, what makes us to feel warm? Is it the food? Is it the technology? Is
it the facilities? Absolutely not! It’s the people who makes us more
comfortable. South Korea is majority of people with Kindness. I felt kindness
in each and every one I met, be it in workplace or outside. The culture is so
rich and welcoming. There are mostly polite. They have a great helping
tendency. It was because of the kindness of my Korean colleagues as well as the
people outside, I enjoyed my entire stay in Korea.
Love! In Korea, I witnessed an outpouring
of love. It was very expressive. The family ties were strong. Every weekend,
parents take their children out. They are totally present, both physically and
mentally, when they are around family. In Korea, one of the main priorities is
fitness. Everyone is really in fitness. It's challenging to locate someone with
a tummy. The majority of Koreans participate in one or more physical
activities. In Korea, hiking is highly popular. Every weekend, many people,
even elderly, used to hike large mountains.
The riverbank walks are quite well-maintained. They are organised properly. Several people use the routes for walking, exercise, jogging, etc. A separate track is also available for bicycles. Along the pathway, there are also free basketball, football, and gym facilities. They never dump trash into the rivers, which helps keep them so clean.
Roads:
The cleanliness was the first thing I
noticed when I arrived in South Korea. Everything was organised and spotless.
The roads were excellent. Amazingly, there was no sound of horns on the
highways. I was unable to hear any sound, even on the busiest roadways. I was
initially perplexed—could there be a problem with my hearing? But I was
mistaken—remarkably it's quiet there. I think I only heard the horn on the
roads maybe ten times during my whole six-month stay. Horning is a sign that
someone is being impolite.
The rules they follow while driving are
quite admirable. And no breaking of the law. Even if there are CCTV cameras and
severe penalties, people are not breaking any laws. They never drive in the bus
lane and stay in the same lane without making any unwanted overtakes. In fact,
there aren't any road dividers. They have a very disciplined driving style.
Food:
Wowwww! What a wonderful variety of food Korea provides. I initially felt alienated by the taste of India. But after a few days, I got close to it and now I adore it. They follow a well-balanced and healthful diet. There are numerous side dishes, as well as soup, rice, and meat.
Some notable dishes that I particularly like were
- Eel
- Grilled Mackerel
- Gochu gunmandu
- Dongkatsu
- Ppyeohaejang-gug
- Bingsu
- Kimchi stew
- Soon-dae-guk
- Moksal with Sangchu and KKaennip
- Jajangmyeon
- Bungeo-ppang
- Kongnamool
- Steamed Tofu
- Steamed dumpling
- Jeju Noodles
- Chicken dakgalbi
- Stir fried Green Laver
- Cart bar banquet noodles
- Korean Egg toast
- Tteokbokki
- Bibimpap
- Gimbap
Transportation System:
A fantastic transportation system exists in
Korea. Buses and the subway have made it possible to travel everywhere in the
country. Everyplace is connected. Both Naver Map and Kakao Map provide
first-rate services. This wonderful transportation service allowed me to
effortlessly navigate to any location in the country as a lone traveller. Korea
is ours if we have a smartphone with mobile data or WiFi connectivity. We are
able to go everywhere alone.
All city buses and subways offer free
Internet access as well. Moreover, heaters are installed in the waiting areas
at bus stops and subways during the winter. Hence, we experience no cold. In
every subway, there are announcements and directions in English. Language is
therefore not a major issue.
Safety:
Korea is one of the safest countries in the
world. No robbery in any kind. Even at midnight, it is safe to wander across
Korea's streets. E-bikes and regular bicycles were left unlocked and parked on
the deserted roads. Nobody even cares to touch the possessions of others.
