Sokcho
"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". My first trip in South Korea began with the miles from Yongin to Sokcho. My first tourist destination in Korea was Sokcho. I was accompanied by some of my colleagues who were already in Korea. With all preparation set, we started on the first day of Chuseok. I was super excited since that was first step of exploring Korea. We rent a car and started by morning.
Ideally, the travel to Sokcho would barely
take 3hours. But since it was Chuseok, so many people were travelling to their
native, and the road was super crowded. It took around five hours to get there.
The patience of the drivers was what I enjoyed most despite the heavy traffic.
Nobody let out a horn blasting. No one disregarded traffic laws either. In
between, we took a brief stop in the rest area. I've never seen a rest area
that large. There were many of dining options, coffee shops, and public
restrooms. I noticed that all of these rest stops had the same kind of
architecture and that they were all located alongside highways. It was a
replica.
We ate some hot chicken noodles with
kimchi. My first Korean meal was that. Naturally, that's when I first became
aware of kimchi. That wasn't very tasty, to be honest. Yet it was content. We
continued on to Sokcho, arriving there at noon after negotiating a busy area.
To the Naksansa shrine we went first. On the edge of the shoreline was where
the temple was situated. So, the lovely view was great. There were numerous
instances of Korean architecture across the enormous temple area.
We drove to Sokcho beach while enjoying
Pizza Hut pizza after snapping enough photos. Wowwww! The beach was really
fantastic! Everything looked neat and clean, and the water was a pale blue
tint. A bonus was the giant wheel. One can take in the beautiful view of the
city and coastline there. Many street performances illuminated the coastline.
I always have the most incredible bliss
when I'm on the beach. It was a full moon day, adding to the splendor already
there, and we had a wonderful view. I did nothing more than sit there and enjoy
the breeze. A few people also purchased crackers, which they delighted by
bursting on the beach. We can stroll via a bridge that was constructed in order
to access the interior of the sea for a short distance. The stillness and sea
breeze there were just too lovely.
Overall, Sokcho is one of the best
locations for picnics with friends and family. Despite only seeing a few famous
locations, the time we spent there is worth mentioning.
