Taebaek national park
The greatest view comes after a hardest Climb. In the case of Taebaek Mountain, this assertion is absolutely accurate. Before the end of January 2023, I made this excursion. The wind and cold were extreme. The chill kept getting worse as I ascended, and it was really cold. Yet I was motivated by others around me. There were a tonne of walkers. The trail was almost completely occupied. The majority of the population was older than 50. Their fitness, consistency, and preparation astounded me.
Taebaeksan is a key mountain located in
Baekdudaegan mountains chain which is considered as the backbone of Korean
peninsula. Since history was written, Taebaeksan has been considered as one of
the divine, numinous mountains. Near the summit, there is an alter where
priests offer services to the gods of heaven and earth. Once we stands there,
we will understand why people came up and built an alter there. It has been
said that sensitive person can feel spiritual energy there.
Once I reached at the top, I could see the
snow mountains unfolding beneath me. What a magnificent view it was! At the
top, people who came with a group, also made a tent, had a chit-chat and
enjoyed read-to eat foods. I happened to met a great old man who was around his
70’s climbing this gigantic mountain. When I asked him what made him to hike,
he just said, “he loves hiking”. How true it is! When we love something,
nothing can be a barrier. Age is just a number. Isn’t it? He also added that he
would like atleast once in a week in any one of the mountains of Korea. And so
far, he climbed around 10 big national parks of Korea, which is not so easy.
What a wonderful man! I had a great time with this old champ.
At the bottom of the mountain, there held a
snow festival where different sculptures were sculpted in snow. This festival
happens everywhere during winter in January. I was luckily enough to a part of
this snow festival.
Taebaeksan is a stunning mountain that one
shouldn't miss in the winter!
